Hi guys, my first post in the student room!
Anyway, I was wondering how long would it (usually) take you to write out a 750 word essay, assessed for 20% of your overall marks (100% total).
I know alot depends on your own personal preference and style, but I feel like I really take too long; Some people on this site write at ungodly speeds!
I personally scrutinize every word I place into my essay, ensuring that the idea is there, and has been presented with the best words possible.
The downside? My life gets put on hold! Terrible, for me, who likes to get out and do stuff. I'm thinking of changing my approach since I have quite a few assessed essays this semester, but what do you guys think?
I could hammer out 750 words in an hour, possibly less. (Writing an essay in 45 minutes by hand, my answer would probably be closer to 900 words.) I'd probably spend several hours (two or three) planning the essay. That doesn't include reading time. Then again, I write between eight and ten essays in an eight week term, each between about 1500 and 2000 words.
If, however, I were doing it for a final coursework mark, I'd probably spend more time planning/editing/revising. The prose has to be more polished. In my first (non-law) degree, it was probably 2 days work to write an essay and edit it. That doesn't include time to read the material.
I wouldn't overstress your work, but if it counts for 20% of your course mark then it's worth putting in a fair amount of effort.
